Linking external bank accounts

Connect an outside bank account to fund your Accountable accounts or withdraw money.

Linking an external bank account lets you move money between your existing bank and your Accountable accounts. Only admins can link accounts.

  1. Go to Accounts and open Linked accounts.
  2. Click Link Account.
  3. Search for your bank and sign in, or enter your routing and account numbers manually.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish.

If your bank connects instantly, you'll see "You have successfully linked your external account!" and the account is ready to use.

Verifying with small deposits

Some banks can't connect instantly. In that case, two small deposits or a single deposit with a code are sent to your bank account, and the link shows under Pending setups with an Estimated arrival date.

Once the deposit arrives:

  1. Go to Accounts > Linked accounts.
  2. Find the pending setup and click Verify deposits.
  3. Enter what you see on your bank statement:
    • If you received a descriptor code, look for a statement line starting with SM and enter the code.
    • If you received two deposits, enter both amounts.

You can also click Email me the verification link to get the verification page by email. Pending accounts can't be used to move money until they're verified.

If a setup doesn't finish

  • Canceled: "This setup was canceled. Start a new bank link when you're ready."
  • Incomplete or failed: "This setup couldn't be completed. Start a new bank link to continue."

To stop a pending setup yourself, click Cancel bank account setup. That verification attempt can no longer be used, and you can start a new link afterward.

Using a linked account

Once linked, you can:

  • Move money in with Transfer to Accountable
  • Move money out with Transfer from Accountable

See Moving money.

Tip: Microdeposits usually arrive within one to two business days. Watch your bank statement so you can verify right away.
